🏘️ Villages Italy

About us

A project born from a passion for authentic places, forgotten corners, far from the tourist crowds.

Who's behind it

Founder Community builder Traveller

My name is Massimo di Gregorio and Villages Italy is my second journey.

The first one began at the table: in 2013 I founded "Quelli di Bonci", a community of over 500,000 home-baking and pizza enthusiasts, built on three simple values: naturalness, sharing, craftsmanship. Years spent writing about flours, fermentation and raw ingredients taught me one thing: behind every product there is a territory, and behind every territory there is a village with a story worth telling.

Villages Italy was born from that: from the desire to follow the supply chain backwards — from the plate to the village. My mission is to take travellers, Italian and international, off the mass-tourism routes and into the Italy of borghi: the real, slow, convivial one.

Our story

Villages Italy started with a simple question: why is the most beautiful Italy — medieval villages clinging to hilltops, fishing towns on the Tyrrhenian coast, Alpine hamlets where people still speak in dialect — so hard to find?

We travelled the length and breadth of Italy, talked to mayors of towns that appear on no guidebook, tasted dishes that have no name on any restaurant menu. And we decided to bring it all together in one place: Villages Italy.

We are not a travel agency, we don't sell packages. We are travellers sharing what we have discovered, in the hope that others can do the same.

The editorial team and the method

Every village profile carries the editorial byline and the date of its last update. Behind it there is a precise method:

We explain how we work, tools included, on our Editorial transparency page.

What we do

🗺️

We document borghi

Every village has a detailed profile with history, coordinates, photos and how to get there.

✍️

We write guides

Our travel guides are born from real experiences, not press releases or tourist board fact sheets.

🧀

We bring the land to the table

PDO, PGI and traditional products matched to the villages of their territory.

🔍

We help you choose

Filter by region, theme or feature: find the village that suits you in just a few seconds.

Our values

🐌

Slow travel

Fewer stops, more time. Villages reveal themselves on foot, not by ticking off lists.

🌿

Authenticity

Real places, real people, true stories. What cannot be verified is not published.

🤝

Local communities

Bringing visitors where they do good: to villages that thrive on a few, precious guests.

🍷

Conviviality

Food and wine as a bridge between those who travel and those who live the land.

We do not publish paid content. We do not accept sponsorships that influence our editorial selection. Our only compass is authenticity.
